Magento Community themes – 5 Theme requirements for SME stores

by | Feb 5, 2018 | Blog | 0 comments

Magento is perfect for small and medium (SME) stores. This is especially true because Magento has the free Community version that suits most business requirements. You not only get an out of the box store but also one that doesn’t have hosting. A good thing as you can now choose your own host according to your needs and budget. Magento Community themes are designed and look the same as Enterprise ones. Just remember the following five requirements.

Magento Community themes requirement:

A visually appealing store will hook your customers from the first look.

Colors are an important part of a theme. Just like how you carefully choose the colors for your brick and mortar store. Similar consideration should be taken for your online store as well. Don’t use very bright and gaudy colors. If however you want to add a bit of spark to your store, use it sparingly.

Customers don’t come to the store to read. This is usually the reply we get when we suggest about fonts. But remember customers will be reading your product descriptions, your return policy, special offers and other similar content. Having small fonts makes it hard to read. You can however add a feature that allows users to increase their font if they find reading difficult.

Choose simple layouts that help customers navigate your site faster. Categories should be well marked. Images should be plenty especially for products. Include also a product video. Customers love to see this. You can even include a 360 degree view if your product needs it. Like if you are selling cars.

You never know which browser your customer uses. Themes should always be browser compatible. Also they shouldn’t conflict with any extensions you are planning on adding.

And finally, the theme should be responsive. Which means no matter which device your customer shops from, your site will always be perfect. Google in fact encourages this by ranking such pages higher in the search pages.

In conclusion Magento community themes are a great way to add uniqueness to your store. Web 2 Market has been designing Mage stores since the program first came out. Talk to us and let us create your vision together.
